South Carolina’s been high on point guard signee Zach Davis since the moment he committed and Monday he jumped into the rankings for the first time.

Davis, the first member of South Carolina’s 2022 class, debuted in the updated On3 rankings as the No. 147 player in the country as he nears the end of an eye-popping senior season. On3 also considers him the No. 22 point guard in the country.

The 6-foot-8 point guard is averaging 23.9 points, 7.8 assists and also 9.5 rebounds per game this season for Denmark-Olar (S.C.) according to MaxPreps.

“I feel like I’m a great passer and great defender. At 6-foot-8 with my length, the way I move and the way I can dribble the ball I feel like the system fits me and I fit the system,” Davis told GamecockCentral in November. “I feel like I can fit passing lanes well, can get my teammates open and can knock down shots.”

Davis’s recruitment to South Carolina was a fast one with the Gamecocks showing interest but also offering him a scholarship and him essentially committing on the spot.

Davis committed before the season began and he signed with South Carolina in November, the earliest possible time.

“Looking at the papers and seeing me fill them out in my name was just amazing,” Davis told GamecockCentral after he signed. “I never thought I’d be going D-I, playing for Frank Martin and playing at a school close to home. That’s my dream school and playing in the biggest conference ever. It’s amazing.”

The South Carolina native is one of three commitments in the 2022 class joining signee Daniel Hankins-Sanford and Bryce Lindsay. Lindsay committed in January and hasn’t signed yet. The next signing period begins on April 13.

The Gamecocks’ signees Hankins-Sanford, in addition to Lindsay, isn’t ranked in the latest On3 rankings update.

“Zach is a special talent. He’s every bit of 6-foot-8, has a passing eye that’s special. He passes that ball unbelievably. He’s a good shooter that will work at shooting the ball, plays for his dad. His dad coaches him hard,” Frank Martin said when Davis signed.

“Not on game days but every day. I think defensively and offensively Zach has a chance to be a star because he has a beautiful smile, a great personality and a great family. He knows how to play. There aren’t too many 6-foot-8 guys who play with the skill level he plays with.”

South Carolina’s in the middle of a 14-10 start to the season and travels to Ole Miss Tuesday.
