South Carolina softball positioned as national host in Softball America bracketology

On Wednesday, the team at Softball America released their first bracketology of the 2025 season. Thanks to a strong start to the season in which the Gamecocks have positioned themselves in the top 10 of every major poll, South Carolina softball earned a national host projection from the outlet.
Softball America listed USC as the No. 5 overall seed in their postseason projection. That would mean Ashley Chastain Woodard’s team would host both the NCAA Tournament Regional and Super Regional rounds (Super Regional would come only if USC won their Regional). South Carolina is one of 15 SEC teams in the predicted field and one of 10 SEC host sites. The rival Clemson Tigers also sit in line for a hosting role, currently the No. 15 seed.
Carolina’s high seed stems from a resume built on a tough schedule and just one series loss to top-5 Oklahoma. In fact, the Gamecocks own the No. 2 RPI in the country, behind only the Florida Gators.
If Softball America’s current projection proved to be 100% accurate, Columbia would host the Coastal Carolina Chanticleers, Virginia Cavaliers, and Radford Highlanders. The Gamecocks lost to Coastal in a mid-week contest but are 2-0 against Virginia this season. The Columbia Regional would pair with the Durham Regional, hosted by the Duke Blue Devils. The Durham Regional also would include the Georgia Bulldogs, UNC-Greensboro Spartans, and George Washington Revolutionaries. South Carolina swept Duke in Durham earlier this year and took two of three from Georgia in Columbia.
