This weekend, South Carolina softball did something difficult. Despite dropping the first game of the weekend against Georgia (marking five consecutive losses), the Gamecocks turned around and won the series. Beating the rival ‘Dawgs on both Saturday and Sunday in one-run affairs (Saturday’s came in walk-off variety thanks to an Abigail Knight single scoring Arianna Rodi in the bottom of the seventh), South Carolina picked up their sixth and seventh ranked victories of the 2025 season.

With a total record of 2-2 last week (2-1 against Georgia, plus a mid-week loss to Coastal Carolina), South Carolina moved to 22-5 overall and 2-4 in SEC play. The series victory over Georgia saw the Gamecocks move just a little in the polls.

Of the four major college softball polls, one moved USC up, while three slotted them down a bit. All of them kept Ashley Chastain Woodard’s team inside the top 15.

D1Softball elected to rank South Carolina No. 10 in the country. The outlet moved USC up four spots from last week.

The Gamecocks earned SoftballAmerica’s No. 11 ranking. That marks a one-spot dip from last week’s top-10 inclusion for USC.

South Carolina ranked 9th in last week’s poll from ESPN.com and USA Softball, but on Monday, the garnet and black slid to No. 10.

USA Today and the NFCA placed South Carolina softball in their top-25 rankings at No. 11. That is two spots lower than last week.

This week, South Carolina does not play in the mid-week but will face quality weekend competition. The time off for the Gamecocks will be followed by an additional break from SEC play. USC will take on the Texas Tech Red Raiders in a three-game weekend set, the final non-SEC weekend series of the season for the team.

The 20-7 (5-1) Red Raiders are a quality team in first place in the Big 12 and coming off of three consecutive wins. Of the team’s seven defeats, five have come against ranked programs. Texas Tech also does not play in the mid-week ahead of the inter-conference series.

The home series will begin on Friday evening at 6:00 p.m. at Beckham Field. First pitch for Saturday’s game two will be at 3:00 p.m. Then, the Sunday finale is scheduled for a Noon start. Fans will not be able to watch any of the three contests on traditional television. However, they can stream all three on SEC Network+ via the ESPN app.

Carolina will play a mid-week tilt against the rival Clemson Tigers next week before resuming SEC play next weekend with a road series against the LSU Tigers.
