Where South Carolina softball ranks after big SEC sweep

South Carolina lost the second edition of the 2025 rivalry game against the Clemson Tigers last week (the Gamecocks won at home, the Tigers won in the Upstate). However, Ashley Chastain Woodard’s troops bounced back in a big way over the weekend. In three games against the Kentucky Wildcats on Saturday, Sunday, and Monday, USC came away with a sweep, outscoring UK 22-1.
Now 35-11 overall and 10-8 in SEC conference play, South Carolina will face another in-state foe in the upcoming mid-week before hitting the road to take on the Auburn Tigers.
Last week’s 3-1 record saw the Gamecocks drop one spot in the RPI to No. 4 in the country. Texas A&M, Florida, and Florida State own spots one, two, and three ahead of them.

Despite winning three out of four games, South Carolina only moved up in one of the rankings. However, USC remains a consensus top-15 club in the major polls.
D1Softball dropped Carolina down one spot from No. 9 to No. 10 in their weekly update. The ranking is tied for the highest for the team this week.
Softball America also penciled in the Gamecocks at No. 10. That marked a two-spot deduction from their place in last week’s rankings and ties Softball America with D1Softball for the outlet highest on South Carolina.
The top-25 update from ESPN.com and USA Softball slid Chastain Woodard and company up this week. After being the country’s 12th-best team a week ago, USC is now No. 11 in the poll.

The USA Today/NFCA ranking is the lowest on South Carolina softball, slotting them in at No. 13 nationally. That is the same place the Gamecocks found themselves in last week’s rankings.

Because of their weekend series not ending until Monday, South Carolina won’t play in the mid-week until Wednesday. The Gamecocks will host the in-state Winthrop Eagles at Beckham Field. Then, in a back-to-normal three-game set on Friday, Saturday, and Sunday, the team will hit the road for a series against the Auburn Tigers.
Wednesday’s home contest against Winthrop will not broadcast on traditional television. However, the 6:00 p.m. contest will stream on SEC Network+.
On Friday night, South Carolina and Auburn will begin their series at 6:00 p.m. Then, Saturday’s game two will start at 3:00 p.m. First pitch for the series finale on Sunday will be at 2:00 p.m. None of the Auburn series will be on traditional television, but just like the Winthrop contest, SEC Network+ will make the action available to fans via streaming.
