South Carolina softball dropped its series against the Auburn Tigers this weekend. The Gamecocks lost the first two games before bouncing back for a salvage on Sunday.

With the defeat, USC’s overall record moved to 36-13, and the team now owns an 11-10 mark in SEC play. Even still, Carolina is a really good team that still has realistic goals of hosting when postseason play begins. Before the weekend, the Gamecocks were the No. 7 overall seed and a national host through the Super Regional round of the NCAA Tournament.

Last week’s 1-2 record (weather canceled the mid-week contest against Winthrop) affected South Carolina’s RPI. After being No. 1 three weeks ago and No. 4 at the start of last week, the Gamecocks now sit in the No. 8 spot in the RPI.

Despite the tough weekend, Ashley Chastain Woodard’s team has a strong resume. Because of that, all four major polls kept her group ranked inside the top 15.

D1Softball dropped the Gamecocks four spots to No. 14.

When Softball America released its updated rankings, South Carolina slotted in again as the No. 14 team in the country. That also marked a four-spot decline from last week.

ESPN.com and USA Softball’s top-25 poll included USC in the No. 12 position. Previously, Carolina had been 11th.

South Carolina softball now is No. 14 in the USA Today/NFCA rankings. The Gamecocks fell one spot from No. 13.

Up next for Chastain Woodard and company is four games in five days to end the regular season. The Gamecocks will host the in-state Furman Paladins at Beckham Field on Tuesday night. Then, the Alabama Crimson Tide will be in town for a Thursday-Friday-Saturday affair.

South Carolina is 10-2 against teams from the Carolinas this season, and Tuesday’s game against Furman will be their last one of the regular season. First pitch is scheduled for 6:00 p.m. The contest will not be on traditional television but will stream on SEC Network+.

The three-game set against Alabama will be in Columbia and will serve as the team’s final games before the SEC Tournament next week.

Thursday night’s game one will begin at 6:00 p.m. at Beckham Field. SEC Network+ will stream the action.

On Friday, South Carolina and Furman will play at 6:00 p.m. again. Like the series opener, SEC Network+ will handle streaming responsibilities.

First pitch for the series finale (and regular-season finale) is slated for Noon on Saturday. SEC Network will broadcast the game, while the ESPN app makes it available via streaming.
