South Carolina baseball will face the College of Charleston in a fall scrimmage on Thursday, Nov. 7. The announcement was made official by Charleston Friday afternoon.

First pitch for the exhibition will be at 6 p.m. at The Ballpark at Patriots Point, home of the Cougars. This will be the first time these two teams will play against each other since 2018.

“We are so excited to be hosting the Gamecocks at Patriots Point this fall. I’ve always thought the world of Coach Maneiri and personally, I’ve had some amazing experiences as a Gamecock as well,” said Charleston head coach Chad Holbrook. “This will make for one great night of baseball and our players couldn’t be more excited.  I’m sure both Cougar and Gamecock fans will have this date circled!”

This matchup will serve as something of a reunion for Holbrook, who spent nearly a decade coaching at South Carolina. He was an assistant on Ray Tanner’s staff from 2009-12 and helped the Gamecocks win a pair of national championships.

After Tanner retired in 2012, Holbrook was named his successor to take over as head coach. In five seasons as the Gamecocks’ skipper, he went 200-106 (.654) with two NCAA Super Regional appearances. But after the 2017 season, the two sides parted ways, which led him to Charleston, where he remains to this day.

Since taking over at Charleston in 2018, Holbrook has led the Cougars to a 225-122 (.648) record. Charleston finished atop the CAA in both 2022 and 2024. However, the Cougars were notably left out of the NCAA Tournament field this past season after losing to UNC Wilmington in the conference championship game.

As for South Carolina, it will enter a new chapter in what has been a storied history. The Gamecocks fired former head coach Mark Kingston after the 2024 season. Paul Mainieri was hired as the 31st head coach in program history on June 11.

At the exhibition, there will be exclusive Charleston baseball merchandise for sale along with food trucks and vendors. Ticket information through Charleston Athletics will be available this fall.
