South Carolina will be without one of its top playmakers for Saturday’s game at Vanderbilt.

MarShawn Lloyd is dealing with a thigh contusion and will not be available tonight as the Gamecocks try for bowl eligibility.

He did not travel with the team. Christian Beal-Smith, Lovasea Carroll, Juju McDowell and Dante Miller were the running backs to travel.

David Spaulding also did not travel.

Lloyd suffered a bruise on his leg last week in a 23–10 loss to Missouri, sidelined for nearly all of the second half. Shane Beamer said Thursday Lloyd was feeling “okay” and his status would be evaluated as kickoff approaches.

With Lloyd out, South Carolina’s run game takes a big hit. Lloyd has team-leads in attempts (100), yards (556), yards per carry (5.6) and touchdowns (9). Lloyd has been one of the team’s best players over the course of the season, including during the four-game win streak.

Juju McDowell is second with 46 carries for 136 yards. Christian Beal-Smith has four touchdowns on the ground.

Brad Johnson did travel with the team.

The Gamecocks are coming off their most disappointing performance of the season in 23-10 loss to the Tigers. Now they’ll have to face a Vanderbilt team coming off a bye week.
