What would Gamecock FAMs like to find under their trees this Christmas? We take our best guess, and there isn’t a partridge in sight.

Twelve more AP number ones

If South Carolina tops the AP Poll 12 more times it will go wire-to-wire atop the poll for the second season in a row.

Eleven wins over Tennessee

South Carolina is 10-49 all-time against the Lady Vols. The teams meet once this season, in Knoxville on February 23. As the next to last game of the season, it will likely have significant implications in the SEC standings.

Ten home wins

The Gamecocks potentially have ten more home games – eight regular season and two NCAA tournament games. Win them all and they have their second consecutive undefeated home slate and another Sweet 16 appearance.

Nine in a row

South Carolina has led the nation in attendance for the last eight seasons and currently leads the country again. Average attendance is 11,941, more than 2,000 ahead of second place Iowa state.

Eight SEC All-Defensive Team players

Under Dawn Staley, seven players have been named to the SEC All-defense teams (Demetress Adams also made the all-defense team, but not while Staley was her coach). A long-overdue nod for Brea Beal would make it eight players.

Seven SEC Championships

South Carolina has six regular season SEC championships and six SEC Tournament championships. A seventh regular season title would move the Gamecocks into a tie with Georgia for the second-most in league history. A seventh tournament title would break a tie with Vanderbilt for second-most, and avenge last year’s loss.

Six Final Fours

South Carolina made the AIAW Final Four in 1980 and made the NCAA Final Four in 2015, 2017, 2021, and 2022. 2023 would be the Gamecocks’ sixth overall.

Five double-doubles

Aliyah Boston has 68 career double-doubles. She needs five more to break the South Carolina record of 72, held by the great Sheila Foster.

Four wins over UConn

South Carolina is 3-9 all-time against the Huskies. South Carolina has won three of the last four meetings but has never beaten the Huskies in the Nutmeg State.

Three-point baskets

South Carolina started the season shooting a decent clip from behind the arc, but as the temperatures dipped, so did the shooting. South Carolina is currently shooting just 29.6% from three. Zia Cooke is 21-56 (37.5%) from three, but she isn’t getting much help. Bree Hall is 8-22 (36.4%) and Brea Beal is 11-31 (35.5%), respectable but not intimidating clips. The hope is that Kierra Fletcher (0-8), Raven Johnson (2-19), or Chloe Kitts (1-1) can find her stroke and help stretch the court.

Two wins in Dallas

Two wins in Dallas would mean a second national championship won in the Big D, and three overall.

One point guard

The committee approach to the point guard position has worked so far, as Kierra Fletcher, Raven Johnson, Laeticia Amihere, and Zia Cooke have all shared duties. But Staley would prefer one player to take control of the position full-time.
