South Carolina women's basketball: Agot Makeer gives the Gamecocks a top-five signing class

On Saturday, five-star recruit Agot Makeer committed to South Carolina. Makeer’s decision gave a massive boost to the Gamecocks’ 2025 recruiting class.
Makeer is a 6-1 wing. She was born in Fargo, North Dakota, but grew up in Thunder Bay, Ontario, and competes internationally for Canada. Makeer attended Crestwood Prep in Tornoto before transferring to Montverde Academy in Florida for her senior season.
Makeer is ranked fourth in the On3 industry ranking and is in the top five of every recruiting service.
Makeer joins wing Ayla McDowell, who signed with South Carolina in November, in the Gamecocks’ 2025 signing class. Adding Makeer vaulted the Gamecocks to fifth in ESPN’s team rankings. They were previously unranked.
According to ESPN:
“Dawn Staley and the three-time champion Gamecocks are adding some serious length and versatility to their wing/forward positions with the additions of Makeer and McDowell. Both can play multiple positions and will help stretch the floor for South Carolina, which is known for its dominant interior play and size.”

Makeer’s commitment leaves just one uncommitted top-100 recruit for 2025: top-ranked Aaliyah Chavez. Chavez will announce her commitment on March 25. Her finalists are Texas Tech, Texas, Oklahoma, UCLA, and South Carolina. The Gamecocks are thought to be a longshot.
With Makeer’s commitment, South Carolina now has from nine to 12 players on the roster next season. They are freshmen Makeer and McDowell; sophomores Adhel Tac, Joyce Edwards, and Maddy McDaniel; juniors MiLaysia Fulwiley and Tessa Johnson; and seniors Chloe Kitts and Ashlyn Watkins.
Seniors Raven Johnson, Maryam Dauda, and Sakima Walker have remaining eligibility but are also eligible for the WNBA Draft. (Watkins is also eligible for the WNBA Draft because she meets the age requirement, but her injury probably eliminates any chance of leaving early.)
