2025 wing Agot Makeer, one of the top prospects in her class, has named South Carolina one of her six finalists.
Makeer revealed her top six to On3’s Talia Goodman on Monday. The move comes a little over a month after she announced her top 12 on social media.
Makeer’s six finalists are South Carolina, Duke, Michigan State, North Carolina, Kentucky, and UConn, which she called her dream school. She eliminated UCLA, Notre Dame, Michigan, Virginia Tech, Louisville, and Vanderbilt.
Makeer has been a steady riser in the rankings going from 60th to tenth and now sixth overall in both HoopGurlz and On3’s rankings. Her thin build was a concern when she was younger, but as Makeer has grown into her frame her stock has risen.
She is coming off a strong performance at the FIBA U17 World Cup. Makeer averaged a team-high 17.7 points plus 7.0 rebounds and 2.3 assists to lead Canada to a silver medal. She shot nearly 48% from the floor and grabbed 4.0 steals on her way to being named to the tournament’s All-Star Five.

“Genuine relationships are big for me,” Makeer told Goodman. “My top six schools are those because I have genuine relationships with the coaching staff and they’ve taken time to build relationships with my family as well… All six schools, I could go and make an impact.”
Makeer also described what she likes about South Carolina.
“It’s really good. I have a pretty good relationship with coach [Dawn] Staley. It’s one of the powerhouses of women’s basketball like UConn. It’s really cool to be recruited by them and I love what they do there for black women, especially. I really like that and I have a good relationship with the coaching staff, so I’m excited to get on campus.”

Makeer averaged 19.3 points, 7.7 rebounds, and 2.8 assists last season. She is an effective rebounder, defender, and passer, but what makes her game elite is her shooting ability. Makeer made nine threes to earn MVP honors in her high school championship game.
Makeer can get her shot in different ways. She can create off the dribble, get open of screens, or hit the old-fashioned spot-up.
Makeer was born in North Dakota and then moved to Thunder Bay, Ontario, a city on Lake Superior near the border with Minnesota. In search of better competition, Makeer then transferred to Crestwood Prep in Toronto.
Crestwood has become the Canadian equivalent of Montverde or IMG Academy, a prep school that pulls in the top talent from across the country. Crestwood has sent over a dozen players to the NCAA, including former UConn star Aaliyah Edwards and current Duke player Toby Fournier.
Makeer has reportedly visited Michigan State and North Carolina. Along with several schools that didn’t make the cut. As a somewhat late bloomer, she has gone from being linked to programs like Marquette and Kentucky (pre-Kenny Brooks) to South Carolina and Kentucky (post-Kenny Brooks).
Makeer plans to visit all six programs in the fall.
