Former Gamecocks A’ja Wilson and Aliyah Boston were among the top vote-getters for the 2023 WNBA All-Star game.
Wilson received the most votes for the second consecutive season. It is her fifth all-star selection, although Wilson did not play in the 2019 game. There was no all-star game in 2020, the season Wilson won her first MVP.
Wilson won her second MVP last season, leading Las Vegas to its first WNBA championship. She is averaging 19.3 points, 9.4 rebounds, 2.2 blocks, and 2.1 assists this season as Las Vegas has dominated the rest of the league during a 12-1 start.
As the leading vote-getter, Wilson and second-place Breanna Stewart will be team captains for the game, which will be played on July 15 in Las Vegas. The captains will select their teams at a later date.

Boston was fourth in the fan voting when preliminary votes were announced recently. The top ten vote-getters are considered All-Star starters. Boston was the top pick in this year’s draft and has surpassed expectations. She is the eighth rookie to start an All-Star game and the first since 2014.
Boston is averaging 15.6 points, 8.1 rebounds, 2.2 assists, and 1.5 blocks. Indiana has already won five games, equalling its win total from last season in just 13 games. Boston has quickly become Indiana’s centerpiece on both ends of the court.
Boston becomes the third Gamecock named a WNBA All-Star. Shannon Johnson was a four-time all-star (1999, 2000, 2002, and 2003). Dawn Staley was a five-time all-star (2001, 2002, 2003, 2005, and 2006). Staley also won the inaugural three-point contest in 2006, her final season as a player.
Allisha Gray could become the fourth Gamecock All-Star when reserves are announced July 1. She nearly made it last season and is expected to be named a reserve this season. Gray is averaging 17.8 points, 5.5 rebounds, and 2.8 assists. She leads the Dream in scoring and is second in rebounding and third in assists.
