South Carolina women's basketball alum named WNBA Eastern Conference Player of the Week
South Carolina women’s basketball alums Allisha Gray (Eastern Conference) and A’ja Wilson (Western Conference) brought home both WNBA Conference Player of the Week honors two weeks ago. On Tuesday, when the league revealed the award-winners for last week, Gray repeated as Eastern Conference Player of the Week. She was joined by Western Conference counterpart Kayla Thornton of the Golden State Valkyries.
The distinction is the second of Gray’s season and the second of her career. Now a realistic candidate for Eastern Conference Player of the Month, she has emerged as a legitimate MVP candidate, as well. She has led the Atlanta Dream to be the league’s most improved team so far this season.

Gray earned her recognition after averaging 23.3 points, 6.0 rebounds, 4.3 assists, and 1.7 steals per game. She shot 60% from the field in three games and knocked down seven overall 3-pointers. Gray also led her Atlanta Dream squad to a 3-0 record with wins over the Indiana Fever, Chicago Sky, and Washington Mystics. Gray scored a career-high 32 points on Sunday against the Mystics. She now has the three highest-scoring games of her career this year.

Gray has handled more distribution duties this summer, as well, averaging a career-high number in assists (4.5). Her scoring average (21.0) and rebounding average (5.5) are the best of her professional career, too. That is also true of her shooting numbers, both from the floor (51.4%) and from the 3-point arc (41.8%).
On the 2025 campaign, Gray sits in second place in the WNBA in scoring and third in 3-pointers made. She has (along with fellow former Gamecock guard and new rookie Te-Hina Paopao, who also logged a career-high on Sunday with 16 points and five assists) led the Dream to the third-best record in the WNBA at 8-3.
