South Carolina women's basketball announces SEC Tip-Off representatives
On Tuesday, South Carolina women’s basketball announced the team’s representatives for next week’s SEC Tip-Off. According to the SEC’s official announcement, redshirt junior guard Raven Johnson and senior post player Sania Feagin will accompany head coach Dawn Staley to Birmingham, Alabama for the October 16th event.
Coming off of an undefeated National Championship run, the SEC Tip-Off likely will be full of Gamecock-friendly coverage. However, Coach Staley will use her time in front of a mic to promote the sport and challenge her team.
Staley, Johnson, and Feagin surely will answer tons of questions about the “Repeat Tour,” the status of junior forward Ashlyn Watkins, and a variety of other topics. The Gamecocks have won 8-of-11 SEC Regular Season Championships, 8-of-10 SEC Tournament Championships, and 3-of-7 National Championships.

Johnson, a multi-year starter at point guard, was a clear choice for the SEC Tip-Off. The Gamecock point guard is comfortable in front of the microphone, and as one of the leaders of the team, she is poised for another terrific year in garnet and black. No. 25 should have more assist opportunities than ever this season as the Gamecocks’ shooting options around her have never been more plentiful. As a redshirt junior, Johnson will have a go-to-the-WNBA-or-stay-in-college decision to make following the season.

Feagin is a senior who arrived in Columbia alongside Johnson and Bree Hall in an elite 2021 recruiting class. The Team USA U23 3×3 World Cup gold medalist will be a solid option in a loaded forward/center room. Her role has increased every year, though, so a heavier workload could be in the cards for Feagin.
The 2024-2025 SEC Tip-Off will be October 15th-16th. The Gamecocks will hold the stage from 2:45 pm. to 4:30 p.m. on Wednesday. SECNetwork will broadcast the event.
