South Carolina women's basketball holding strong near top of AP rankings
For the last month, South Carolina women’s basketball has been in a somewhat unfamiliar situation. Following their loss to UCLA, the Gamecocks dropped from the top spot in the AP top 25. Despite dropping to 4th, USC has rebounded and jumped back up to No. 2 in the most recent Associated Press rankings.

That continued on Monday. When the AP dropped their updated top 25, South Carolina remained at No. 2. The Gamecocks still are behind only the undefeated Bruins.

Carolina has earned its way to the second-highest ranking in the land. Since the UCLA loss, Dawn Staley’s squad has gone 7-0 with three top-15 victories. The team’s average margin of victory in those contests sits at 33 points per game. They’ve won their three ranked matchups by an average of 28 points per game, as well.

The Gamecocks have not lost an SEC matchup since 2021 on the road against Missouri. Their first in-conference contest this season? A road contest in “the other Columbia” against the Missouri Tigers.
