On Sunday, South Carolina women’s basketball finally lost its 71-game home winning streak. Not only that, but when the UConn Huskies got some revenge on the Gamecocks after four straight defeats in the rivalry series, Geno Auriemma and company smacked USC around for an 87-58 shellacking. It was the team’s worst home loss since a 2008 (Dawn Staley’s first season) defeat to those same UConn Huskies.

Following the loss, South Carolina has fallen to 23-3 on the season. They also are 11-1 in SEC play and remain tied with Texas at the top of the league. If the Gamecocks and Texas Longhorns continue winning, they will share the SEC regular season title and have the No. 1 seed in the SEC Tournament decided by a coin flip.

Because of the UConn beatdown, Carolina slid a bit in the AP rankings. When the Associated Press updated their top 25 poll on Monday, the Gamecocks slid from No. 4 to No. 6.

Ahead of South Carolina following the loss are now (in order) the Notre Dame Fighting Irish, Texas Longhorns, UCLA Bruins, Southern Cal Trojans, and UConn Huskies. Then, the LSU Tigers follow at No. 7. That top seven appears to have separated themselves from the rest of the country this season, but there are still two more weeks of the regular season remaining to ensure that is the case. UCLA, who had been the only undefeated team left in the country, lost this week.

You can see the entire AP top 25 rankings below (first-place votes in parentheses):
