Last week, South Carolina women’s basketball coach Dawn Staley saw her team remain in the top spot in the AP Poll top-25 rankings. However, after a few misguided voters picked Southern Cal and UConn as the nation’s best team during the preseason, the Gamecocks found themselves as the unanimous pick one week into the college basketball season.

Following a 2-0 week that included wins over Coppin State and East Carolina, USC now is 4-0 and owns a scoring margin better than +25. This comes despite Carolina playing shorthanded in two neutral site games against Michigan and then-No. 9 NC State last week. Because of that, it comes as no surprise that South Carolina remained the unanimous No. 1 team in America. Just as they should have, the Gamecocks picked up all 31 1st-place votes this week.
