South Carolina junior forward Ashlyn Watkins was arrested Saturday morning on multiple charges.

According to public records, Watkins was charged with Assault and Battery in the first degree and kidnapping. She was granted a public recognizance bond on the assault charges.

According to the Richland County Public Index, the bond hearing for the kidnapping charges was also held, but conditions are not listed. Watkins is not listed as a current inmate at Alvin S. Glenn Detention Center.

According to the arrest warrant, the incident occurred at 650 Lincoln, where most of the basketball players live. Watkins is accused of “forcefully grabbing (the victim’s) face, pulling her by her arms, and pushing her.”

Watkins then “picked the victim up against her will and carried her away.” Watkins also “grabbed the victim’s head and forced her to walk down the hall, thus controlling her movement while preventing her from leaving,” which led to the kidnapping charge.

According to the arrest warrant Watkins “confessed” and there is video surveillance of the incident. The victim was treated for non-life-threatening injuries and released.

Watkins’ first court appearance is scheduled for October 25. South Carolina has not immediately commented on the situation.
