South Carolina women’s basketball will play the first of back-to-back road contests on Thursday when they travel to Athens for a date with the Georgia Bulldogs in Stegeman Coliseum. The No. 2 Gamecocks have won 16 games in a row (15 by double-digit point margins), while the Bulldogs have lost six in a row and eight of nine in SEC play.

Per the SEC-mandated availability report, injuries will not mar this SEC contest too much. On Thursday, both USC and UGA will be without just one player each.

For South Carolina, junior forward Ashlyn Watkins remains out. The All-SEC talent tore her ACL against Mississippi State in January and won’t return until next season. Coach Dawn Staley did not include any other players on the Gamecocks’ availability report.

Georgia junior Amiya Evans also will not play in the game. Evans—a part-time starter this season—hasn’t played in about a month. UGA coach Katie Abrahamson-Henderson did not include any other players on the availability report, though, several members of her team have dealt with injuries. Guard Roxane Makolo missed about a month, too, but returned to action against Alabama last week; her first game back went well as she did not make the availability report on Wednesday night. Nyah Leveretter has missed a lot of time for Georgia this season but recently returned.

During the offseason, the SEC approved a new policy that mandates availability reports for conference games. The reports will be required for football, men’s and women’s basketball, and baseball. For football, teams submit reports on Wednesday and then update them each day until a final report 90 minutes before game time. For basketball and baseball, reports will be submitted the evening before a game and then updated on game day.

The availability reports will use designations such as “available,” “probable,” “questionable,” “doubtful,” and “out” to describe how likely it is that a particular player will suit up for the next conference game. On game day, those designations will shift to “out” or “game-time decision.” The reports model professional sports leagues’ injury reports.

South Carolina and Georgia will tip off at 6:00 p.m. on Thursday evening. The contest will not broadcast on traditional television. Instead, SEC Network+ will stream the conference affair.

At 21-1 on the season and 9-0 in conference play, South Carolina enters the game as heavy favorites. Georgia (now 9-14 overall and 1-8 in league play) plays a lineup of young players. The results on the floor haven’t been consistent enough, but the future could be bright in Athens.
