South Carolina women’s basketball will host Oklahoma in one of the top matchups of the weekend on Sunday. Both the Gamecocks and Sooners sit inside the AP’s top 15, and OU post player Raegan Beers has some history with USC from last year’s NCAA Tournament when she was a member of the Oregon State Beavers.

According to the SEC-mandated availability report from Saturday night, injuries won’t be a major storyline in this one.

The Gamecocks have no surprises on their side of the availability report. Forward Ashlyn Watkins, who tore her ACL earlier this month, remains out. Both post player Sakima Walker and guard Maddy McDaniel remain off the report after recently having dealt with an ankle injury and concussion, respectively.

Oklahoma listed Beers as “probable.” The All-American held that same designation heading into the Sooners’ last game against Missouri. However, she played against the Tigers and should play again on Sunday. She scored 16 points and pulled down eight rebounds last year against the Gamecocks in the NCAA Tournament.

An updated report will come out about 90 minutes before tip-off on Thursday. Watkins’ status won’t change before the game, but Beers’ will. Oklahoma then must remove her from the report, designate her as “out,” or shift her status to “game-time decision.” Most players labeled as “probable” wind up removed from the availability report and play in the game.

During the offseason, the SEC approved a new policy that mandates availability reports for conference games. The reports will be required for football, men’s and women’s basketball, and baseball. For football, teams submit reports on Wednesday and then update them each day until a final report 90 minutes before game time. For basketball and baseball, reports will be submitted the evening before a game and then updated on game day.

The availability reports will use designations such as “available,” “probable,” “questionable,” “doubtful,” and “out” to describe how likely it is that a particular player will suit up for the next conference game. On game day, those designations will shift to “out” or “game-time decision.” The reports model professional sports leagues’ injury reports.

South Carolina and Oklahoma will tip off their Southeastern Conference tilt at 3:00 p.m. inside Colonial Life Arena. ESPN will broadcast the game, and the ESPN app will make it available for streaming.

The Gamecocks enter the contest on a 12-game winning streak, including five in a row by at least 17 points against SEC foes. Oklahoma has won its past two games, bouncing back from a tight loss on the road to Mississippi State.

Coach Dawn Staley just signed the richest contract in women’s college basketball history earlier this week.
