South Carolina women's basketball approaching multiple all-time attendance records

South Carolina women’s basketball fans are the best in the country. The FAMs–as head coach Dawn Staley affectionately calls them–routinely lead the country in attendance. In fact, the Gamecocks have led the nation in overall attendance every season since 2014-2015 (not so coincidentally, that was A’ja Wilson’s first year on campus).
*Because of the Covid-19 pandemic, attendance figures from the 2020-2021 campaign are unofficial.*

The 2024-2025 season has been no different than the previous ten. South Carolina sits atop the national rankings in the butts-in-seats tally once again. However, the Gamecocks have a shot at making some history.
With one home game left in the regular season (the already sold-out Senior Day against the Kentucky Wildcats this Sunday) and an expected two games at Colonial Life Arena in the opening rounds of the NCAA Tournament also remaining, South Carolina is within striking distance of the all-time total attendance and all-time average attendance marks.
Last year, Dawn Staley’s program saw its fanbase break its own record for total attendance. Set previously around 245,000 fans in the 2015-2016 season, the 2023-2024 Gamecocks brought right around 273,000 fans to Colonial Life Arena. That number rivaled the 2007-2008 Tennessee Lady Volunteers in average attendance, as well. There was some disagreement as to whether USC passed the Vols or not as both teams’ average attendance numbers were just under 16,000. However, the official NCAA record belongs to the Gamecocks.

South Carolina could eliminate all doubt this year.
Heading into the final home game of the regular season on Sunday, South Carolina has averaged just under 17,000 fans per game. With Sunday’s sellout incoming (CLA’s seating capacity is 18,000), that number will jump above the 17,000 mark this weekend. 18,000 more Gamecock fans will be in attendance on Sunday, moving the total attendance for the year to about 255,000.
With two NCAA Tournament games to go, Carolina should surpass 273,000 with ease, keeping their average attendance well above 16,000. If that happens, USC will set new records.
