South Carolina women's basketball to host College GameDay for UConn clash
South Carolina women’s basketball will host College GameDay…for real this time. The Gamecocks were slated to host the prestigious ESPN pregame show ahead of their matchup against the LSU Tigers in January, but Winter Storm Enzo changed those plans when the big-time SEC matchup moved from Thursday to Friday. Now, USC will welcome the GameDay crew to Columbia when Dawn Staley’s team matches up with the UConn Huskies. ESPN announced the news on social media.
College GameDay will visit Columbia for its first women’s basketball-focused show of the season. The two-hour special on Sunday, February 16th will begin at 11:00 a.m. on ESPN. Then, the show’s second hour will air on ABC from Noon until 1:00 p.m. ESPN will air the game with tip-off set for 1:00 p.m. The ESPN app also will make the contest available for streaming.
Last year, GameDay went to Baton Rouge to watch Carolina win their 15th in a row over the LSU Tigers.

As things stand right now, the annual rivalry game against UConn will be a top-5 matchup. South Carolina sits at No. 2 in the AP poll, while Geno Auriemma’s Huskies own the No. 5 spot. The NET rankings also rank the Gamecocks’ resume No. 1 nationally and UConn’s at No. 2.

Before the anticipated College GameDay clash, both teams will play a tough road game against a ranked SEC foe as UConn will travel to No. 19 Tennessee on Thursday and South Carolina will play in Austin against No. 4 Texas this Sunday.
Last year, South Carolina beat UConn 83-65 at Colonial Life Arena in a game that was even less competitive than the lopsided score. That victory was the Gamecocks’ fourth straight in the series and the second ever in Columbia. USC gets to host the game for the second year in a row because UConn hosted twice since the last time the two teams played in Columbia before 2024.
Earlier this week, both South Carolina guard Te-Hina Paopao and UConn guard Paige Bueckers earned spots in the Nancy Lieberman Award top 10. Though both players are combo guards, the award goes out annually to the top point guard in the country.
