Eleven different Gamecocks scored as South Carolina cruised to a 74-42 win over Georgia.

Nobody expected this game between the teams in first and last place in the SEC to be close, even if South Carolina has sometimes struggled in Athens in the past. And it played out pretty much how everyone expected.

The Bulldogs struggled to score, while the Gamecocks used a 12-0 run in the first five minutes of the game to take control. That was the Gamecocks’ longest run of the game, but it didn’t matter.

Georgia never got closer than seven points after that run, while South Carolina steadily extended the lead to nine after the first quarter, 18 at halftime, and 23 after the third quarter. The lead topped out at 32 several times in the fourth quarter when South Carolina emptied the bench.

All 12 Gamecocks played, and 11 scored. MiLaysia Fulwiley led all scorers with 13, Tessa Johnson added 12, and Chloe Kitts scored 11.

South Carolina shot 46% and 8-19 from three and had little trouble with Georgia’s 3-2 zone. They assisted on 19 of 28 baskets, including the first nine of the game.

“I felt like we were patient,” Kitts said. “We got the ball in the middle and we relaxed and then kicked it out. We had really good ball movement.”

Dawn Staley thought they left too many shots on the floor.

“We handled it well, it’s just we didn’t make any shots,” Staley said. “I thought we gave up some fluid shots.”

South Carolina outrebounded Georgia 47-28 and only allowed seven offensive rebounds. It was a point of emphasis going into the game, and Staley was happy with the result.

“I thought we did a better job of boxing out, that’s one,” Staley said. “I thought we did a better job at just scrapping. If you couldn’t get it, hit it out. Chloe was great, Feagin was great, I thought Tessa got in there.”

Georgia shot just 30% for the game and 1-12 from three. The 42 points were the fewest South Carolina has allowed in an SEC game since holding Kentucky to 36 last season.

Notes:

They are the fifth combination South Carolina has worn this season (white, black, garnet, “Cocky”). … Sakima Walker was the only Gamecock that didn’t score. … No Lady Bulldogs scored in double figures. … Sania Feagin had six points, nine rebounds, and a career-high five assists. … Kitts has made a three-pointer in three consecutive games. She is now 4-10 from behind the arc this season. … Dawn Staley’s outfit: Staley wore a black hoodie, black pants, and black clogs. She also wore green Eagles socks. … Announced attendance was 6,031. … South Carolina’s next game is on Sunday at Texas.
