South Carolina women's basketball dominates SEC Awards

For the second consecutive season, Aliyah Boston was named SEC Player of the Year by the league’s coaches.

Boston and the Gamecocks dominated the league’s awards once again. She was also named the SEC Defensive Player of the Year. Boston has won the award all four years of her career. 

She is joined on the SEC All-Defensive team by Brea Beal, who makes her first appearance after being ignored for three years.

Boston and Zia Cooke were named first-team All-SEC. Cooke was named first team in 2021 and second team in 2022. She averaged 15.5 points and 2.1 assists this season. Boston made the first team all four years.

Boston is the third Gamecock honored as Player of the Year. Tiffany Mitchell won in 2014 and 2015. A’ja Wilson, the only three-time winner, won in 2016, 2017, and 2018. This season, Boston averaged 13.3 points, 9.7 rebounds, and 2.0 blocks.

Dawn Staley was named the SEC Coach of the Year for the second consecutive year, and the sixth time overall. She also won in 2014, 205, 2016, and 2020.

Kamilla Cardoso picked up 6th Woman of the Year honors and was named second-team All-SEC. She was named ACC Freshman and Defensive Player of the Year, but this is her first SEC honor. Cardoso averaged 9.7 points, 8.9 rebounds, and 1.9 blocks. She joins Alaina Coates as the only Gamecocks to win 6th Woman of the Year.

Raven Johnson was named to the All-Freshman team. Johnson averaged 4.2 points and a team-high 3.2 assists per game.

The defending national champions, South Carolina completed the first undefeated regular season in program history, going 29-0. The Gamecocks begin SEC Tournament play Friday at noon.
