The Final Four is set. South Carolina will be joined in Tampa by UCLA, Texas, and UConn. Here’s everything you need to know.

Tickets punched
We were an injury to the best player in the country away from an all-chalk Final Four. Instead, it’s three one seeds and a two seed.

#1 South Carolina plays #1 Texas at 7:00 ET on Friday, April 4. Following that game, #1 UCLA plays #2 UConn.

Fo’, Fo’, Fo’
The Final Four is in Tampa for the fourth time, the most Final Fours hosted by any site.

South Carolina and Texas are meeting for the fourth time this season.

South Carolina is seeking its fourth championship.

UCLA fans chant, “Fours up!”

Texas is appearing in its fourth Final Four.

You again, again, and again
South Carolina and Texas join a relatively short list of teams that will play four times in one season. We nearly had two four-timers: if Southern Cal had beaten UConn, the Trojans would have played UCLA for a fourth time.

Teams have met four times in a season several times before. Duke and Maryland did it in 2006, with Maryland beating Duke in the championship game. UConn and Notre Dame did it in 2012 and 13. Texas A&M and Baylor met four times in 2011.

In all of those cases, the teams played two regular season conference games, met in the conference tournament, and then in the NCAA Tournament (only Texas A&M-Baylor was not in the Final Four).

It’s happened enough that I’m not going to try to make a complete list.

Experience
This year’s Final Four participants run the gamut on experience. UConn has appeared in a record 24 Final Fours. South Carolina has appeared in seven, and five straight, tied for the second-longest streak ever.

Texas is making its fourth Final Four appearance, and first since 2003. UCLA is making its first Final Four appearance.

UConn has 11 national championships. South Carolina has three. Texas has one national championship.

Tip Times Matter (Maybe)
The winner of the early semifinal game has won every national championship since 2016 (there was no tournament in 2020).

The last time that the winner of the late game also won the national championship was in 2015, also in Tampa. UConn beat Maryland in the late game and then beat Notre Dame, who beat South Carolina in the first game, for the championship.
