A lot of the Gamecocks are taking vacations this time of year, but they are still piling up recognition.
You know you’re good when they have to start inventing awards for you. Last week Joyce Edwards became the first person to receive the “Order of the Bulldog.” It is “the highest honor Camden can bestow upon a student.”
I’m not sure how it compares, but Forest Park gave Sania Feagin the key to the city. This came after Forest Park High retired Feagin’s jersey.
Bree Hall had an autograph signing and meet-and-greet back home in Dayton. She shared the event with another Dayton-area champion Rod Moore. Moore is a defensive back for the Michigan football team.
Sakima Walker was also back home in the Buckeye State. She was honored during the Ohio Black Expo parade over Memorial Day weekend.
This weekend, Ashlyn Watkins was in Los Angeles for the Black Student Athlete Summit. She also attended Friday’s Sparks-Fever game.

Raven Johnson penned an article in The Players’ Tribune that recounted the emotional toll last season’s Final Four took on her and how she journeyed back.
Johnson also inked a new NIL deal with a company called Parfait that makes designer wigs. As part of the deal, Parfait has introduced the Raven Johnson Collection. The collection includes three styles: the Revenge Tour, The Mane Champ, and Hollywood Highlight No. 1.
Turning to the pros, Kamilla Cardoso and now-teammate Angel Reese threw out the first pitch before a Chicago Cubs game on May 21. The pair are also featured in ESPN’s NBA Finals promo. Reese says “Champs only” and they put imaginary crowns on their heads. Of course, social media decided it was about Caitlin Clark.
Cardoso is close to returning from her preseason shoulder injury. She is expected to play on June 1. That is against Indiana and Aliyah Boston (and Clark) at noon on ESPN, so it should get lots of attention and be fun to watch.
