South Carolina women's basketball: Gamecocks in the WNBA - Season preview
South Carolina Women’s Basketball: News • Recruiting • Schedule • Roster • Stats • SEC • Polls • Scholarships
The WNBA season tips off Friday night with six former Gamecocks on rosters.
Unfortunately, three Gamecocks were victimized by the final round of cuts on Wednesday, May 4. Seattle waived Mikiah Herbert Harrigan, Chicago waived Kaela Davis, and Los Angeles waived Te’a Cooper.
Dallas Wings
Allisha Gray (sixth season)
Gold Medal Lish is back for another season as Dallas tries to finally break through following a massive rebuild a couple of seasons ago. Gray was one of the few players who survived the rebuild, and she’s a glue player who makes the Wings function much better.
Ty Harris (third season)
There was no guarantee Harris would be back for a third season. Her numbers dropped in her second season, including her playing time. She was inconsistent, but that seemed to have as much to do with her uncertain role with the Wings. Harris still puts up good per 48 stats, but the question is whether Dallas has a role for her.
Schedule:
Saturday, May 7 – vs Atlanta (8:00 ET, CBS Sports Network)
Friday, May 13 – at Washington (7:00 ET)
Sunday, May 15 – at New York (2:00 ET)
Indiana Fever
Alaina Coates (fourth season)
Coates is finishing up her overseas commitments in Turkey and has not yet joined the Fever. She joins Indiana after not playing in the WNBA in 2021. Coates played for Washington in 2020.

Destanni Henderson (rookie)
Henderson is one of five rookies on the Fever roster as the floundering franchise undertakes another makeover.
Tiffany Mitchell (seventh season)
Mitchell is one of the few veterans left on the Fever. She’s become a reliable scorer, averaging 12.7 and 12.0 points the last two seasons, and has been especially adept at getting to the free throw line.

Las Vegas Aces
A’ja Wilson (fifth season)
The 2020 MVP, Wilson might have been even better last season when she led the Aces to the best record in the league. But they faltered in the playoffs, which led to a coaching change. In comes Becky Hammon, poached from the NBA and now the highest-paid coach in the WNBA. With Wilson once again the centerpiece it’s championship or bust for the Aces, about the only thing left that Wilson hasn’t accomplished.
