South Carolina women's basketball: Gamecocks use depth and a pair of big runs to tame the Terriers

South Carolina used its depth and a pair of big runs to overwhelm Wofford for a 93-47 win in the final tune-up before SEC play begins later this week.
Wofford’s Molly Masingale hit a three to start the second quarter and trimmed South Carolina’s lead to 19-14, but then the Gamecocks took over. South Carolina scored 17 unanswered points over the next five minutes to turn the game into a blowout.
Seven different Gamecocks scored during the run, and only Te-Hina Paoapo made multiple baskets.
South Carolina led 46-22 at halftime. Wofford managed to outscore the Gamecocks 19-18 in the third quarter, but South Carolina again dominated in the fourth quarter. They scored the final 22 points of the game to finish off the rout.
Five Gamecocks scored in double figures, led by 16 from freshman Joyce Edwards. MiLaysia Fulwiley had 11, Te-Hina Paopao had 12, Raven Johnson had 13, and Tessa Johnson had 14.

As a team, South Carolina only shot 45% and was just 10-31 from three. But South Carolina got points in its key areas: 48 points in the paint, 26 fast break points, and 26 points off 16 turnovers.

The Gamecocks didn’t need great shooting because their defense was locked in. Wofford was held to 21% shooting and just 7-29 from three.
Rachael Rose, the two-time SoCon Player of the Year, scored 20 points to lead Wofford. She hit 3-8 three-pointers and was able to burn South Carolina several times on backdoor cuts.
