Earlier this week, South Carolina women’s basketball coach Dawn Staley secured a commitment from arguably the top player in the transfer portal as Ta’Niya Latson pledged her services to the 2025-2026 version of the Gamecocks. On Wednesday night, news surfaced that another elite transfer guard would visit Columbia.

Per a report from On3’s Talia Goodman, former Utah sharpshooter Gianna Kneepkens will visit South Carolina, Oklahoma, Texas, and UCLA.

Kneepkens is a 6-foot wing from Minnesota who spent four years with the Utes. Because of an injury costing her most of the 2023-2024 campaign, she has one more year of eligibility remaining. Despite being WNBA Draft-eligible (and a legitimate prospect), she will play college ball again next season.

As a redshirt junior this year, Kneepkens averaged 19.3 points, 5.0 assists, 3.0 rebounds, and 1.0 steals. She also shot 50.4% from the field, 44.8% from 3-point land, and 89.0% from the foul line. Those percentages came on high volume, too, as she made more 3-pointers and more free throws than anyone on South Carolina’s team this season. Some around women’s basketball (understandably) consider her the top shooter in the country.

Kneepkens isn’t just a shooter, though. She can put the ball on the deck, both as a driver and as a facilitator. The three-time all-conference selection is a solid rebounder, too. She is one of the top transfers available.

Regardless of what happens with Kneepkens, South Carolina likely isn’t done mining the transfer portal this cycle. Coach Staley has repeatedly talked about her team’s desire to add a big post player this offseason, and a couple of prominent power forward and center names already have popped up in connection with the Gamecocks.
