South Carolina women's basketball: How the Gamecocks can set the single-season attendance record

South Carolina needs a big finish on Sunday to set the NCAA single-season attendance record.
The Gamecocks drew a crowd of 11,683 for the first round game against Tennessee Tech. It was a loud, raucous crowd for a Friday afternoon game, but also a season-low.
It dropped South Carolina’s season average to 16,694.
The single-season record for average attendance is 16,565, set by Tennessee in 1999. South Carolina can still break that record if it draws at least 14,521 fans.
Before Friday, South Carolina’s smallest home crowd of the season was 15,154 against Charleston Southern on December 19. But that was a regular season game with regular season ticket prices and counted season tickets sold (not necessarily actual attendance).

South Carolina had a program record seven sellouts this season. The previous record was five, set last season.

South Carolina set the total attendance record last season, with 273,133 fans. That averaged out to 16,067, which was the second-highest average ever. South Carolina is only 6,000 behind that total figure, so the Gamecocks should easily reset the mark.
A season average of over 17,000 fans is out of reach at this point. The Gamecocks would have to draw nearly 21,000 on Sunday, about 3,000 over capacity. The fire marshall might not approve.
