South Carolina women's basketball: How to watch Ayla McDowell and Agot Makeer at the FIBA U19 World Cup

The summer of FIBA basketball continues for the Gamecocks as Ayla McDowell and Agot Makeer will compete in the U19 Women’s World Cup beginning on Saturday in Brno, Czechia.
After Brazil earned a silver medal at the AmeriCup tournament, McDowell traveled from Chile to Czechia (formerly known as the Czech Republic).
She was one of the youngest players at AmeriCup, which is a tournament for senior national teams. As a result, McDowell played sparingly for Brazil, appearing in four games. She averaged 2.3 points and 1.5 rebounds in 10.0 minutes.
McDowell should play much more at the U19 World Cup. Her breakout came last summer at the U18 AmeriCup, when she averaged 14.8 points and 7.7 rebounds.
Makeer was not a member of Canada’s senior AmeriCup team, but she also made a name for herself last summer at the U18 AmeriCup. She made the All-Star Five after averaging 17.7 points, 7.0 rebounds, 2.3 assists, and 4.0 steals.
Canada is in Group B with Nigeria, Portugal, and China.
Brazil is in Group C with Australia and France (Mali was also supposed to be in Group C but was unable to travel due to visa issues).
The United States is in Group A with Israel, Hungary, and Korea. Group D is composed of Spain, Czechia, Japan, and Argentina.
For the knockout rounds, Groups A and B and Groups C and D are paired. Canada and Brazil could not meet until the medal round.

There are no current Gamecocks on the Team USA roster. However, South Carolina is recruiting Saniyah Hall, who took her official visit in May, Kate Harpring, who took an unofficial visit last fall, and Sydney Douglas.
In 2023, Chloe Kitts and Joyce Edwards participated for Team USA. Kitts had just finished her freshman season, while Edwards had not yet committed to South Carolina. Edwards was named to the All-Star Five despite being one of the youngest players at the tournament.

Other former Gamecocks who participated in the U19 World Cup include Sania Feagin and Te-Hina Paopao (2021), Aliyah Boston (2019), Tyasha Harris (2017), and A’ja Wilson (2015 and 2013).
Team USA has not lost since the gold medal game of the 2017 World Cup, a streak of 21 games. If the United States goes undefeated again this year, it would set a new record with 26 consecutive victories.
All games will be streamed on the U19 Basketball World Cup website and the FIBA YouTube channel. Unlike the AmeriCup, the U19 World Cup is supposed to be free to stream. Replays are also available.
