One former South Carolina player set a new career-high, while another leads the top team in the league.

Kaela Davis

Kaela Davis is an early favorite to be a Transaction wire all-start (behind MVP Crystal Dangerfield). On Wednesday before the season began, Davis was waived by Chicago. Two days later, just hours before Chicago’s season-opener, the Sky resigned Davis to a hardship contract (Davis didn’t even show up on the league transaction list until the next day). She played 10 minutes that night against Los Angeles but was released on May 9, before Chicago’s next game. Davis was out of work for less than a week and was signed to another hardship contract by Seattle that Friday. She did not appear in a game for Seattle and was waived again on May 18.

Davis is currently a free agent.

Dallas Wings (4-2)

Allisha Gray (6 games, 6 starts, 33.3 mpg, 13.5 ppg, 5.0 rpg, 2.2 apg, 1.2 spg, 1.8 bpg)

Gray blocked a career-high five shots against Phoenix and has been a reliable player as Dallas has gotten off to a strong start despite not having its full team yet.

Last week:

vs Washington (84-68 loss: 37 minutes*, 14 points, 6 rebounds, 4 assists

at Phoenix (94-84 win): 35 minutes*, 16 points, 5 rebounds, 5 blocks

vs Minnesota (94-78 win): 26 minutes*, 7 points, 4 rebounds, 3 assists

Tyasha Harris (5 games, 1 start, 16.2 mpg, 4.2 ppg, 3.2 apg, 1.4 rpg)

Harris put together a couple of solid games in the Wings’ two wins last week.

Last week:

vs Washington (84-68 loss: 14 minutes, 3 turnovers

at Phoenix (94-84 win): 11 minutes, 6 points, 2 assists

vs Minnesota (94-78 win): 18 minutes, 7 points, 4 rebounds, 3 assists

Upcoming:

Tuesday at Connecticut (7:00 ET)

Thursday at Connecticut (7:00 ET)

Indiana Fever (2-6)

Alaina Coates (4 games, 11.8 mpg, 3.8 ppg, 1.8 rpg, 0.5 bpg)

Indiana struggled last week, but Coates has to qualify as a pleasant surprise. Her WNBA career seemed nearly over, but she put in the work to get another chance. Her numbers aren’t overwhelming, but she is earning consistent playing time for the firs time in years.

Last week:

vs Atlanta (101-79 loss): 12 minutes, 5 points, 2 blocks, rebound

at Connecticut (94-85 loss): 13 minutes, 2 points, rebound

vs Connecticut (92-70 loss): 15 minutes, 6 points, 3 rebounds

Destanni Henderson (8 games, 3 starts, 17.1 mpg, 7.3 ppg, 3.0 apg, 1.4 rpg, 63.6 3P%)

Henderson seems to have settled into her role with Indiana’s second unit. She’s third in the WNBA in three-point percentage, having gone 7-11 so far this season.

Last week:

vs Atlanta (101-79 loss): 17 minutes, 9 points, 2 assists

at Connecticut (94-85 loss): 11 minutes, 7 points, rebound, assist

vs Connecticut (92-70 loss): 21 minutes, 6 points, 4 assists, 2 rebounds

Tiffany Mitchell (7 games, 3 starts, 16.4 mpg, 5.3 ppg, 1.9 rpg)

Mitchell scored a season-high nine points in the last game, a blowout loss to Connecticut. She has struggled to carve out a role for the new-look Fever.

Last week:

vs Atlanta (101-79 loss): 17 minutes, 5 points, 3 rebounds

at Connecticut (94-85 loss): 4 minutes, 4 points, 3 rebounds

vs Connecticut (92-70 loss): 15 minutes, 9 points

Upcoming:

Tuesday at Chicago (8:00 ET, Facebook)

Friday vs Los Angeles (7:00 ET, Twitter)

Las Vegas Aces (6-1)

A’ja Wilson (7 games, 7 starts, 30.1 mpg, 14.6 ppg, 9.7 rpg, 2.9 bpg, 2.4 apg)

The Aces’ offense is a lot of fun to watch this season. It looks like a mixture of the Spurs’ motion offense and the Warriors’ drive-and-kick three-point offense, or what you’d expect from Becky Hammon, the former Spurs assistant and one of the WNBA’s all-time great shooters. Wilson’s numbers have taken a hit as she defers more to her teammates (and sits in the fourth quarters of blowouts), but Las Vegas might be the team to beat.

Last week:

vs Phoenix (86-74 win): 34 minutes*, 16 points, 10 rebounds, 3 assists, 2 blocks

vs Minnesota (93-87 win): 31 minutes*, 17 points, 9 rebounds, 4 assists

vs Phoenix (100-80 win): 23 minutes*, 9 points, 5 rebounds, 2 assists, 2 blocks

Upcoming:

Monday vs Los Angeles (10:00 ET, Facebook)

Saturday at Chicago (3:00 ET, ABC)
