South Carolina women's basketball in the WNBA: Week 9

The WNBA All-Star game was Sunday so it was a quiet week on the court for most players.
A’ja Wilson set a new record for the most All-Star votes, and her Team Wilson beat Team Stewart in Sunday’s game. Dawn Staley was also in Chicago. She narrated a preview video and then sat courtside during the game, where she got into a back-and-forth with Jewel Loyd (rehashing that 2015 Final Four game?).

Dallas Wings (10-12)
Allisha Gray (20 games, 20 starts, 31.9 mpg, 14.2 ppg, 5.6 rpg, 2.3 apg, 1.2 spg)
Dallas picked up what might have been its best win of the season against Connecticut, thanks in part to another strong all-around game from Gray.
Last week:
vs Connecticut (82-71 win): 35 minutes*, 12 points, 8 rebounds, 3 assists, 2 steals
Tyasha Harris (21 games, 5 starts, 16.0 mpg, 4.3 ppg, 2.9 apg, 1.0 rpg)
Harris did not have an assist against Connecticut. That is just the seventh time in her WNBA career Harris did not register an assist.
Last week:
vs Connecticut (82-71 win): 13 minutes, 4 points, steal
Upcoming:
Tuesday at Seattle (3:00 ET, Facebook)
Thursday at Minnesota (8:00 ET, Twitter)
Saturday vs Chicago (8:00 ET, CBS Sports Network)
Indiana Fever (5-19)
Alaina Coates (8 games, 9.4 mpg, 3.5 ppg, 2.0 rpg, 0.4 bpg, 93.3 FT%)
Coates’ feel-good story came to an end on June 7 when she was waived by Indiana.
Destanni Henderson (24 games, 3 starts, 15.7 mpg, 5.3 ppg, 2.3 apg, 1.6 rpg, 44.4 3P%)
I read a story about Indiana’s blowout loss to Seattle that singled out Henny as one of the few bright spots. So naturally, she only played eight minutes in the next game as Indiana is trying not to win games.
Last week:
vs Seattle (95-73 loss): 13 minutes, 4 points, rebound, assist
vs Chicago (93-84 loss): 8 minutes, rebound
Tiffany Mitchell (23 games, 3 starts, 13.3 mpg, 5.0 ppg, 1.2 rpg)
Mitchell scored a season-high 15 against Chicago, the first time she’s hit double figures this year. That’s probably too productive, so she’ll barely play this week.
Last week:
vs Seattle (95-73 loss): 13 minutes, 4 points, 2 rebounds
vs Chicago (93-84 loss): 22 minutes, 15 points, rebound, assist, steal
Upcoming:
Wednesday vs Connecticut (Noon ET, NBA TV)
Friday vs Minnesota (7:00 ET, CBS Sports Network)
Sunday at Seattle (6:00 ET, CBS Sports Network)
Las Vegas Aces (15-7)
A’ja Wilson (22 games, 22 starts, 29.8 mpg, 18.5 ppg, 10.1 rpg, 2.1 bpg, 1.7 apg, 1.1 spg)
Wilson had another big game against New York, despite briefly leaving following a hard screen. It wasn’t enough, and the Aces are suddenly a struggling team that needs to rediscover its identity.

Kaela Davis
It’s been over a month since Davis appeared on the transaction report, which suggests her odyssey is over for the year.
Wednesday before the season began, Davis was waived by Chicago. Two days later, just hours before Chicago’s season-opener, the Sky resigned Davis to a hardship contract (Davis didn’t even show up on the league transaction list until the next day). She played 10 minutes that night against Los Angeles but was released on May 9, before Chicago’s next game. Davis was out of work for less than a week and was signed to another hardship contract by Seattle that Friday. She did not appear in a game for Seattle and was waived again on May 18.
Then on May 28, with several Storm players in health and safety protocols, the Storm resigned Davis. Davis played 18 minutes in the Storm’s blowout win over the Liberty on May 29, scoring 11 points to go with two rebounds and two steals. It would be her only game – Davis was waived June 2 to make room for returning players.
In two games this season (one with Chicago and one with Seattle), Davis is averaging 14.0 minutes, 5.5 points, 1.5 rebounds, and 1.0 steals.
