South Carolina women’s basketball star Joyce Edwards will once again suit up for Team USA. After earning an invitation to USA Basketball’s team trials ahead of the FIBA AmeriCup, Edwards is one of 12 players to make the roster. She will be joined by Reagan Beers (Oklahoma), Mikayla Blakes (Vanderbilt), Madison Booker (Texas), Audi Crooks (Iowa State), Hannah Hidalgo (Notre Dame), Flau’jae Johnson (LSU), Gianna Kneepkins (UCLA), Olivia Miles (TCU), Kennedy Smith (Southern Cal), Hannah Stuelke (Iowa), and Grace VanSlooten (Michigan State). Edwards is one of three sophomores to make the team, along with Blakes and Smith.

The AmeriCup will run from June 28th through July 6th in Santiago, Chile. The international competition will mark the third time Edwards has represented USA Basketball. She previously was part of Team USA’s gold medals at the 2024 World Cup (U18) and 2023 AmeriCup (U19).

Entering her second year in garnet and black, Edwards will look to build off a strong freshman season. She earned first-team All-SEC, Freshman All-American, and Honorable Mention All-American honors last season, averaging 12.7 points, 5.0 rebounds, 1.2 assists, 1.1 steals, and 0.5 blocks in 21.4 minutes per game. She also shot 52.9% from the field. Edwards led the Gamecocks in scoring despite coming off the bench. She was second on the team in total rebounding, as well.

Incoming Gamecock freshman Ayla McDowell and South Carolina women’s basketball legend Kamilla Cardoso are candidates to play for Team Brazil at the AmeriCup, as well. McDowell earned an invite to team trials earlier this month. Cardoso was excused from training camp so she could stay longer with the Chicago Sky in the WNBA. Cardoso has played internationally for Brazil for half a decade.
