On Tuesday, the Southeastern Conference announced that South Carolina women’s basketball freshman Joyce Edwards had won the SEC Freshman of the Week award again. This is her fourth time receiving the SEC’s weekly recognition.

The latest honor comes on the heels of a 2-0 week for the Gamecocks. Edwards averaged a double-double against Arkansas and Vanderbilt, pouring in 17.5 points and 10 rebounds per contest. She led USC in scoring against the Razorbacks and snatched 10 offensive rebounds against Vanderbilt. South Carolina basketball legend Aliyah Boston is the only other freshman to record 10 offensive rebounds in a game. Edwards also shot 54% from the field, dished out four assists, and added four steals on the week.

On the season, Edwards is averaging 13.4 points, 5.1 rebounds, and 1.2 steals while shooting 57.5% from the field. Her efforts have helped South Carolina to a 25-3 overall record and a 13-1 mark in SEC play. Edwards and the Gamecocks are ranked No. 6 in the AP poll and No. 2 in the NET rankings.

If Carolina wins out in the regular season, then Dawn Staley’s team will win at least a share of its fourth SEC regular season championship in a row. A title would also mark the team’s fifth in six years and eighth in eleven seasons.

This week, South Carolina plays two more Quad 1 opponents to close out the regular season. First, the Gamecocks will take on the Ole Miss Rebels in Oxford on Thursday at 9:00 p.m. Then, on Sunday, USC will have its Senior Day against the Kentucky Wildcats at 2:00 p.m. Both Thursday and Sunday’s contests will air on ESPN and stream on the ESPN app.
