South Carolina women's basketball great signs with new pro team
A former South Carolina women’s basketball star has a new professional opportunity. Wing Kaela Davis, a member of the 2016-2017 National Championship squad, will play this winter with the Jiangsu Dragons. After making a return to the WNBA this season with the Chicago Sky, Davis will join the Women’s Chinese Basketball Association (WCBA) during the offseason.
Davis will join former Gamecock champions Kamilla Cardoso, Ty Harris, and Destiny Littleton in China this winter. Many WNBA players also play overseas during the offseason to supplement their income and continue working on their games. Cardoso and Harris also are active in the WNBA with the Chicago Sky and Connecticut Sun, respectively.
This past season in the WNBA, Davis played in four games with the Chicago Sky. She had short stints with the Seattle Storm and Atlanta Dream earlier in the year but never saw any game action. In her time with the Sky, Davis scored three points per game.

Davis last played a full-time role in the WNBA back in 2019 with the Dallas Wings. She started 22 games in her first three seasons in the league.

During her South Carolina women’s basketball career, Kaela Davis had just one year active with the Gamecocks. She began her career with the Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets before transferring to join Dawn Staley’s up-and-coming program. After joining the Gamecocks, Davis became an important part of the team’s first-ever national championship run. She averaged 12.7 points, 3.9 rebounds, and 2.2 assists as a versatile player next to fellow future WNBA stars A’ja Wilson, Allisha Gray, Ty Harris, and Mikiah Herbert Harrigan. Her efforts earned Davis a first-round selection in the 2017 WNBA Draft.
