South Carolina women’s basketball alum Laeticia Amihere was a casualty of the WNBA’s roster crunch issues this spring. However, the former Gamecock has found herself back in the league. On Sunday, the Golden State Valkyries, the same team that signed and cut Amihere this offseason, announced that they were resigning the athletic forward. She will be available to play with the team as soon as Monday against the Los Angeles Sparks.

Amihere had a strong preseason with Vegas. In just 17 minutes per game, she averaged 12.5 points while shooting 60% and posting a positive +/-. Now back with the team, she will look to bring energy, versatility, and scoring punch to a team ranked 11th out of 13 in the W in scoring and dead last in the league in shooting efficiency.

Prior to her first stint with the Valkyries, Amihere had a great season overseas. Playing for the Perth Lynx in the WNBL, Amihere was an All-Pro. She averaged 15.5 points per game, 6.3 rebounds, 1.7 assists, 1.7 steals, and 1.6 blocks per game. She also ranked in the top ten in the league in scoring, rebounding, steals, blocks, and field goal efficiency.

On Monday, when Amihere and the Valkyrie take on the Sparks, they will face another former South Carolina forward. Rookie Sania Feagin has been a reserve for LA this season after earning her way onto the roster following the team’s selection of her in the second round of the WNBA Draft.

Amihere could be called upon to play a bigger role than some might expect. Italian forward Cecilia Zandalasani will be away from the Valkyrie temporarily to represent her home country in the Eurobasket (European Basketball Championship) tournament. Zandalasani has been a key reserve for Vegas, affording Amihere an immediate opportunity to win some minutes.
