South Carolina women’s basketball alum Laeticia Amihere was one of several Gamecock alums in the WNBA who elected to play in another professional league this winter. As a tune-up for what will be her third WNBA campaign, the Canadian-born forward took her talents to Australia’s WNBL (Women’s National Basketball League).

The move paid off for her in a big way.

Amihere didn’t just work on her game while with the Perth Lynx, she was one of the league’s top performers. In fact, she earned first-team All-WNBL honors.

On the season, Amihere averaged 15.5 points per game, 6.3 rebounds, 1.7 assists, 1.7 steals, and 1.6 blocks. Her scoring output was seventh-best in the league. Her block total was third in the WNBL, and she ranked 10th in steals. She also finished third in the WNBL in field goal percentage among qualifying players. Amihere was one of the league’s best and most versatile defenders, as well.

This May, Amihere will start her first season with the Golden State Valykyries. The expansion franchise signed Amihere this offseason. She spent the first two years of her WNBA career with the Atlanta Dream.

During her South Carolina women’s basketball career, Amihere did a little bit of everything for the Gamecocks. Spending time at every position on the floor, Amihere logged a handful of starts but spent most of her days in garnet and black operating as a key reserve. She also made three SEC Academic Honor Rolls and three SEC Community Service Teams and was the SEC’s Women’s Basketball Leadership Council Chair for the 2021-2022 season. Amihere owns the all-time USC record for blocks in an NCAA Tournament game. She swatted nine shots against Texas in the 2020-2021 Big Dance.

South Carolina won three SEC regular season championships, three SEC Tournament titles, and an NCAA Tournament National Championship during Amihere’s time in Columbia.
