Former Gamecock Tiffany Mitchell is looking for a new team after being waived by the Las Vegas Aces on Monday.

The Aces expected to compete for a championship this season, but are 8-8 and have struggled with consistency. They made several moves on Monday to try to right the ship.

Las Vegas traded a 2027 first-round pick to Dallas for forward NaLyssa Smith. That move left Las Vegas with 13 active players, one over the limit, plus Cheyenne Parker-Tyus. Parker-Tyus is on maternity leave but is expected to return to the team in the coming months.

Following the trade, Las Vegas waived Mitchell and forward Liz Kitley.

Mitchell appeared in all 16 games this season and made two starts while A’ja Wilson was in concussion protocol. She averaged 3.7 points and 1.8 rebounds in 13.1 minutes. Her scoring and minutes played were career lows.

Las Vegas had a glut of guards, and the emergence of rookie Aaliyah Nye made Mitchell expendable. Las Vegas also had to clear cap space to absorb Smith’s salary.

According to Her Hoops Stats, Mitchell’s salary was $101,123 and Smith’s salary is $91,981.

A ten-year veteran, Mitchell began her career with Indiana. She played for Minnesota in 2023 and Connecticut in 2024. Mitchell missed the second half of last season after being diagnosed with sepsis. She spent several weeks in the hospital battling the life-threatening condition.

The 2014 and 2015 SEC Player of the Year, Mitchell was the first great player of the current era of Gamecock women’s basketball. Dawn Staley called Mitchell her “firstborn,” and Mitchell’s jersey was retired in 2023.
