South Carolina women's basketball mailbag: Answering all of your questions
This week, I asked GamecockCentral subscribers on The Insiders Forum to ask me anything about South Carolina’s trip to Las Vegas and the upcoming season. I answer the questions in today’s women’s basketball mailbag.
(Questions have been lightly edited for clarity.)
How many losses (if any) this year? – BigcockBB
They might lose two. UCLA is going to be tough with Lauren Betts, even with Ashlyn Watkins back. I could also see a split with Texas.
Have you heard anything about Agot Makeer nearing her decision? – CockyGirl
I have not, but with the early signing period starting next week, we will probably know pretty soon. Jaliya Davis recently took her official visit to Columbia, and she’s another one to watch.
Do you see Joyce Edwards or Adhel Tac breaking into the starting lineup? Dawn Staley has been really consistent in naming a starting five and sticking with it, could she move away from that? – GivEmDaSpurs
You nailed it. She won’t change the lineup just to change it. She is also loyal to her seniors, so don’t look for any changes to the backcourt. The two forward positions may change based on matchups. Obviously, this changed completely when Ashlyn Watkins returned to the team. She should step into the starting lineup as soon as she is ready. I like Edwards off the bench because she can play so many positions. It also takes some pressure off her. Tac has something to offer in the starting lineup simply based on her size, so I wouldn’t mind trying that.

I am struggling to understand why LSU is kicking our tail in recruiting right now. Coming off of a national championship with a coach who is the face of the sport, we should be turning down everyone left and right. – ecarch08
Go back a year and switch “South Carolina” for “LSU” and this is what every LSU fan was saying watching the Tigers miss on every one of their targets. Recruiting, especially in the NIL era, is cyclical.
Were any of the players at the blackjack tables with you? – 1Mcreekcock
I did not gamble with any Gamecocks. I did see several members of the Ohio State men’s team (not Meechie). All additional information stays in Vegas.
Was Sakima Walker hurt for the Michigan game? And is Adhel Tac still on a minutes restriction? – B.Cocky
We were told Walker was fine. It was a really bad matchup for her. It would have been really tough to chase around all those guards. Dawn Staley said Tac is “full-go,” so there is no formal minutes restriction. But she is still getting back to full speed physically and mentally, so she isn’t going to be playing 30 minutes anytime soon.
