Updated roster
South Carolina is likely done adding players this offseason. We have updated the Gamecocks’ scholarship grid, which you can see HERE.
AmeriCup trials for Raven Johnson
Raven Johnson is one of 22 players invited to the AmeriCup team trials. The trials are May 11-15 in Colorado Springs. The 22 players invited are all college players.
USA Basketball uses the AmeriCup Tournament as something of a farm team. Only college players are invited, although most professionals are busy with the WNBA season. The younger players get experience against senior national teams with an eye toward developing a pipeline for the Olympics and World Cup.
The AmeriCup team is coached by Washington State’s Kamie Ethridge with assistants Katrina Merriweather (Cincinnati) and Aaron Johnston (South Dakota State).
The camp roster of 22 has to be cut down to 12 before the AmeriCup Tournament is held in Mexico July 1-9.

And Kamilla Cardoso
If Johnson makes Team USA, she could face a familiar opponent. Kamilla Cardoso is a member of the Brazilian senior national team, and unlike the US, Brazil sends its senior team to the AmeriCup Tournament.

Cardoso was the tournament MVP of the South American Championship last summer. She led Brazil to the gold medal, which qualified them for the AmeriCup Tournament.
Brazil does not appear to have announced its roster or a training camp schedule.
WNBA Transactions
Mikiah Herbert Harrigan’s stay in Connecticut was a short one. The Sun waived Herbert Harrigan on May 3, just four days into training camp. Herbert Harrigan signed a training camp contract so she wasn’t guaranteed a roster spot, but it was still a quick move.

WNBA Preseason
Preseason games began Friday with the Minnesota Lynx in action. Tiffany Mitchell started and played 31 minutes, finishing with nine points and a team-high six assists. Brea Beal played 17 minutes off the bench. She missed both of her shot attempts and turned the ball over twice.
Indiana played on Sunday. Aliyah Boston started and played 16 minutes. She scored eight points on 4-5 shooting. Destanni Henderson played 13 minutes and had four points and three assists. One of those assists set up Victaria Saxton, who had four points in 14 minutes.
The regular season begins May 19.

Recruiting
There is a recruiting shutdown this week, so things will be quiet. Before the shutdown South Carolina was busy on the recruiting trail. At least five new offers have gone out over the past couple of weeks, and activity has picked up with some earlier offers. I’ll have more on those offers later this week.
