South Carolina women's basketball notebook: Sania Feagin joins USA Basketball and a schedule update

– Another piece of the scheduling puzzle has fallen into place. It’s a small but important piece: the time for the first game of the season in Las Vegas.
According to the T-Mobile Arena website and ticket site, South Carolina and Michigan will tip off at 7:30 ET (4:30 Las Vegas time). The Ohio State-Texas men’s basketball game will follow at approximately 10:00 ET (7:00 PT). Exact television information still has not been announced, but Turner Sports is the broadcast partner.
It is noteworthy that although the men’s basketball (between the two biggest athletics departments in the country) game gets the better local time slot, women’s basketball gets the premium television slot. It’s also the better tip time for those of us who want to make postgame dinner reservations.
– On Tuesday USA Basketball announced that junior Sania Feagin will participate in the 3×3 U23 World Cup in September. It is Feagin’s second USA Basketball appearance. She won a gold medal on the 2021 U19 World Cup team.
Feagin’s teammates for the competition are Cotie McMahon (Ohio State), Harmoni Turner (Harvard), and Azana Baines (Seton Hall alum playing professionally in Spain). Feagin averaged 6.7 points and 3.8 rebounds in 15.2 minutes last season. She got better as the season went on, highlighted by a 16-point, six-rebound, five-block, four-assist game at Kentucky on February 25.

Feagin is seeking to become the second Gamecock to win a 3×3 gold medal. Allisha Gray captured gold at the Tokyo Olympics. 3×3 requires players to be versatile with all-around skills. Feagin settled in as a reserve post, but also played wing and forward last season, so she looks like a good fit for 3×3.
The tournament runs from September 11-15 in Ulaanbaatar, Mongolia. Games will be streamed on the FIBA 3×3 YouTube channel.
– Raven Johnson has another public appearance in September. She is a panelist at the “EPIC Discussion: Championing Equity and Elevating Women in Sports” on September 20. The event is sponsored by an organization called “EPIC,” which stands for Equal Play: Inspiring Confidence.
Johnson is joined on the panel by former Gamecock Markeshia Grant and Dr. Tragil Wade, the CEO and founder of America’s Big Sisters. They will “will provide multiple perspectives on building positive team culture, supporting all girls (especially girls of color), and how sports blazes a path for girls to succeed.”
The event is on September 20 in Omaha. Tickets can be purchased at epicforgirls.org.
