South Carolina women's basketball star named to midseason Wooden Award list
On Tuesday, the Los Angeles Athletic Club announced that South Carolina women’s basketball star Te-Hina Paopao made the midseason watch list for the John R. Wooden Award. She is one of 25 players on the watch list.
Previously, former Gamecocks A’ja Wilson and Aliyah Boston won the Wooden Award as the nation’s top player.
Paopao, who also made the midseason watch list last season, is averaging 11.6 points, 2.5 assists, 2.4 rebounds, and 1.1 steals per game. She is shooting 49% from the field and 43% from the 3-point line.

COLUMBIA, S.C. – South Carolina women’s basketball fifth-year senior Te-Hina Paopao earned a spot on the John R. Wooden Award Women’s Midseason Top 25 Watch List, the Los Angeles Athletic Club announced today. It marks the second time in as many seasons that she has made the list.
The 2024 All-American has earned all-conference honors every year of her college career and capped last season as the nation’s top 3-point percentage shooter. This season, Paopao leads the Gamecocks in scoring at 11.6 points per game on 49.0 percent shooting with a more diversified approach to scoring. Her numbers rise to 14.0 points per game on 55.8 percent shooting against ranked opponents, and early in SEC action, she is averaging 13.5 points on 52.9 percent shooting. Her 1.93 made 3s per game rank 15th in the SEC and account for 43.7 percent of her scoring, compared to 64.1 percent of her scoring coming from the 3-point line last season. This season Paopao is more aggressive and versatile in her scoring, averaging 4.1 points in the paint to go with her 5.1 per game from the 3-point line.

Paopao impacts the game in every way, stepping up her defense in her second season with the Gamecocks and continue to distribute the ball with 2.5 assists per game. She leads the team with 10 double-figure scoring games.
No. 2/2 South Carolina is back in action this week with a pair of home SEC games beginning on Thu., Jan. 9, against Texas A&M. Tipoff at Colonial Life Arena is set for 5 p.m.
