South Carolina’s Repeat Tour begins in just 10 days, on November 4 in Las Vegas. Throughout October, GamecockCentral has profiled each member of the team and how she is expected to contribute this season. Today we look at the big girl, Adhel Tac.

Adhel Tac (Redshirt freshman, Post, 6-5)

Player profile
Tac barely played the last two years because of injuries, but she was still the second-ranked post in the class. She enrolled last January so she could rehab the latest injury (a dislocated kneecap and ligament damage). Tac is tall with a wide frame and is good at playing to her size. Dawn Staley has repeatedly compared Tac to Aliyah Boston.

Preseason assessment
Staley said Tac was unlikely to play against Memphis – revealing that she had only been fully cleared to practice for a couple of weeks – but ultimately changed her mind. Tac only played a little under eight minutes, but it was enough to make an impact. She had six points on 3-5 shooting, five rebounds, and a block. Tac also looked like an inexperienced freshman at times and picked up two fouls in her limited action.

Burning question: Can Tac overcome injuries to become the next great Gamecock post player?
Staley thinks so. Here’s what she said at SEC Media Days:

“She’s got the makings of what we’ve had for the past 10 seasons, which is a dominant big. She has the makings of that, so we’re going to pour into her, not put too much pressure on her. Some of the stuff she did out there, I mean, she reminded me of an Aliyah Boston. The communication out there on the floor, you can hear her. The amount of just support that she has from her teammates. Quite incredible. They’re pouring into her. It’s a beautiful thing to see.”

Only time will tell, of course. The biggest concern with Tac isn’t talent, but the injuries and whether she can stay healthy enough to compete at a high level.
