South Carolina’s Repeat Tour begins in three weeks, on November 4 in Las Vegas. Throughout October, GamecockCentral will profile each member of the team and how she is expected to contribute this season. Up today is Raven Johnson.

Raven Johnson (RS Junior, Point guard, 5-10)
37 games (35 starts), 8.1 ppg, 5.2 rpg, 4.8 apg, 2.1 spg, 35.0 3P%

Player profile
In her first fully healthy season, Johnson looked like the former national high school player of the year again. She was the consummate point guard who picked her spots scoring and rebounding while finishing with the second-best assist-to-turnover ratio in the nation. Johnson capped off her “Revenge Tour” with a dominant defense performance against Caitlin Clark in the national championship game.

Preseason assessment
Johnson’s happy-go-lucky public persona belies a focused, confident, and cerebral player.

“She’s very consistent in how she approaches practice,” Dawn Staley said. “What you see is what you get. What you see her doing in games is what you see her do in practice. So she’s very consistent with that, very, very competitive.”

Johnson has a few rough spots in her game that she is still trying to iron out: her turnovers came in bunches and her shot, while much-improved, was also streaky. She’s popping up on some WNBA mock drafts, but she needs to show continued improvement to get drafted.

Burning question: Can the Repeat Tour match the Revenger Tour?
Johnson’s personal revenge tour became a team rallying cry last season. She quickly dubbed this season the repeat tour, and now she has to back it up. As soon as she or the Gamecocks struggle, there will be negative questions. Johnson has to keep herself and her teammates focused and on task.
