South Carolina women's basketball: Quick recap of Ta'Niya Latson and Madina Okot media availability

On Tuesday afternoon, transfers Ta’Niya Latson and Madina Okot met with the media for the first time. Here’s a quick recap of what they talked about.
Latson was asked about having to make the adjustment from being the focal point at Florida State to sharing the spotlight at South Carolina. She said the harder adjustment was learning to be the center of attention when she went to Florida State.
Latson also went out of her way to say good things about Florida State and emphasized how much she enjoyed her time there.
Other programs that reached out to Latson included LSU and UConn. She said she got some pretty significant NIL offers, but South Carolina was the best place for her to accomplish her goals and improve her game.

Okot said she models her game after A’ja Wilson and Aliyah Boston. That made it natural to want to play for the same program that developed them.
Okot has only been playing basketball for five years.
She got emotional talking about her family and how much her parents sacrificed to get her to this point. She hasn’t seen her family in over a year.
The Gamecocks have become a surrogate family for her, and Dawn Staley is like another mother.
We’ll post expanded Q&As in the coming days.
