South Carolina women's basketball: Rapid Reaction - Tennessee Tech

South Carolina had a record-setting offensive performance in the 108-48 win over Tennessee Tech. Here’s what stood out from the game.
– It wasn’t a perfect game. South Carolina had 16 turnovers. And the starters got off to a slow start in the third quarter causing Dawn Staley to make a line change.
The second unit immediately went on an 18-2 run, and everything was once again right in the world. But it gives Staley something to critique before Sunday.
“I wanted to see what they could do in that situation and see if they could energize us,” Staley said.
– A side benefit of a 60-point margin of victory is that little-used players get lots of playing time. Maryam Dauda, Maddy McDaniel, and Adhel Tac each made the first NCAA Tournament appearance of their careers. They also got to play extended stretches, with McDaniel playing almost 19 minutes.

Dauda had four points, four rebounds, and a steal. McDaniel finished with two points, three assists, and two rebounds. And Tac did well enough to earn a trip to the post-game podium, chipping in six points, a rebound, and a block.
The highlight was a perfect lob pass from McDaniel to Tac for a layup that had everyone saying, only half-joking, there is the future.
“It felt pretty great, honestly,” Tac said. “I didn’t want to come into the game with any expectations. I just wanted to play my game, so I went into the quarter not expecting myself to do anything. Didn’t have like a set number of how many points I wanted to make or anything. I just want to play good basketball.”
– She wasn’t one of the stars of the game on Friday, but it was encouraging to see Te-Hina Paopao score nine points on 3-6 shooting from three. Paopao has been in a slump for about a month. Hopefully, this will break her out of it.
