South Carolina’s SEC-record 57-game conference winning streak came to an end with a 66-62 loss at Texas.

Rori Harmon made a pair of free throws with 10 seconds left to clinch the win for the Longhorns, who moved into a tie with South Carolina atop the SEC standings.

South Carolina hadn’t lost a regular season game since losing 70-69 at Missouri on December 30, 2021.

The game was tied at 49 entering the fourth quarter. Both teams scored off of layups, and then Texas got back-to-back buckets from Kyla Oldacre and Madison Booker to go up by two possessions.

The Gamecocks never led in the game, and bungled their best chance in the fourth quarter. MiLaysia Fulwiley, who briefly left the game with an arm issue, made a step-back jumper and then got a steal. But Fulwiley and Bree Hall mishandled the two-on-one break and the Gamecocks never got a shot out of the possession.

Oldacre scored consecutive layups to put Texas back up by five. She finished with 13 points and six rebounds.

Trailing 64-62, South Carolina had one last chance to tie. But Tessa Johnson’s layup attempt missed wildly and Texas got the rebound.

Booker bounced back from the first game against South Carolina when she had seven points on 3-19 shooting. On Sunday, Booker had 20 points, 11 rebounds, and three assists.

The officials called 22 total fouls in the first half and 16 in the first quarter alone. That left both teams dealing with foul trouble for most of the game.

The officials swallowed the whistles in the second quarter, but South Carolina was just 2-4 from the line.

South Carolina got back in the game in the third quarter. It started with a 6-0 run out of the locker room. Then Bree Hall and Te-Hina Paopao each hit a three, and Chloe Kitts converted a traditional three-point play in a 9-2 run that tied the game at 47.

Both teams added a basket to take the game to the fourth quarter tied at 49.

Fulwiley led South Carolina with 13 points. Six other Gamecocks scored at least seven points. South Carolina shot just 37% and 5-19 from three.

Texas shot 44% and finished plus-seven rebounding. The Longhorns got 19 second-chance points off 15 offensive rebounds.
