South Carolina women's basketball: Three Gamecocks named WNBA All-Star starters

A’ja Wilson, Allisha Gray, and Aliyah Boston have been named starters for the 2025 WNBA All-Star Game. The game will be played in Indianapolis on July 19.
On Sunday, Indiana’s Caitlin Clark and Minnesota’s Napheesa Collier were announced as the team captains. They were the top two vote-getters in the fan vote. Boston was third in fan voting, and Wilson was fourth.
The 10 starters were split into guards and forwards, but selected without regard to conference affiliation. The fan vote accounted for 50 percent of the vote, while current WNBA players and a media panel accounted for 25 percent each.
Among guards, Gray only finished seventh in the fan vote, but led the media and player voting. Wilson was third in fan voting but first among media and players. Boston was second in fan voting and ninth by media and players.
Wilson, the reigning MVP, is making her seventh All-Star appearance. She has made the All-Star Game every season except for 2020, when there was no All-Star Game (she won her first MVP award that season).
Wilson has been a starter in every All-Star Game except her first. She was a captain in 2019 when she was the second-highest vote getter, and again in 2022 and 2023 when she was the leading vote getter.
Last season, Wilson set all-time records for points and rebounds in a season. This season, she is averaging 21.6 points (second in the league), 9.9 rebounds (second in the league), 3.8 assists, 2.6 blocks (leads the league), and 1.9 steals.
Allisha Gray is having a career season and will be a starter for the first time. Gray was a reserve in 2023 and 2024. Last season, she also swept the three-point contest and the skills challenge.

Gray is averaging 19.5 points, 5.4 rebounds, and 4.1 assists, all career-highs. She is also hitting a career-best 42.4% from three and is second in the league in three-pointers made.

In her third season, Boston will make her third All-Star appearance. She was second in fan voting last season and fourth in 2022, when she became just the eighth rookie to start in the All-Star Game.
Boston is averaging career-highs with 15.9 points and 3.6 assists. She also averages 8.2 rebounds and 1.3 blocks. Boston leads the WNBA in field goal percentage at 59.7%.
The remaining starters are Nneka Ogwumike, Breanna Stewart, Paige Bueckers, Sabrina Ionescu, and Satou Sabally.
WNBA head coaches will select the 12 reserves. The head coaches will vote for three guards, five frontcourt players, and four players at either position but may not vote for players on their own team. The names of the 12 reserves will be revealed on July 6.
South Carolina is unlikely to have any reserves, but there is also the three-point contest and skills challenge.
As captains, Clark and Collier will draft their rosters by selecting from the remaining eight players and then from the pool of reserves. The draft will be announced on July 8.
