South Carolina women's basketball to be without freshman guard for season opener
South Carolina women’s basketball will open the 2024-25 regular season in Las Vegas against Michigan on Monday. However, the Gamecocks will be down another player when they make the trip out west.
Head coach Dawn Staley confirmed freshman guard Maddy McDaniel will miss at least the first game of the year.
“Probably not playing,” Staley said on Friday. “She didn’t practice. She hasn’t done any live, well some drills, but not live.”
McDaniel, a 5-foot-9 guard from Upper Marlboro, Md., didn’t play in either of South Carolina’s two exhibition games against Memphis and Clayton State. She dressed for the Clayton State game on Monday but didn’t see any action on the floor.
