South Carolina updated freshman guard Tessa Johnson’s injury status on Wednesday.
Johnson is expected to play in South Carolina’s showdown against LSU on Thursday night. She participated in the portion of practice open to the media on Wednesday.
“She’s tough,” Dawn Staley said. “She may not be 100%, but they’ll have to guard her.”
Johnson rolled her left ankle early in the second quarter against Texas A&M. She later returned to the bench but spent the second half in warmups with a walking boot on her left foot.
Johnson missed three games earlier this season after she sprained her right ankle during shootaround prior to the Clemson game.

She was averaging 7.3 points in SEC play before the Texas A&M game. Johnson had emerged as a key reserve with her shooting and steady play and scored 11 points against Kentucky.
“She’s doing great on both sides of the basketball,” Staley said after the Kentucky game. “We know she can shoot, we know she can score. I thought the last couple of games she’s been very aggressive. Maybe not efficient, but good shots. Good shots that didn’t go in. We need to continue her progression of being aggressive. I think she’s doing some great things defensively. I think she’s deceptive on that side of the basketball, but she’s really impactful. She’s turning out to be a nice player for us, really maturing in a nice way.”
#1 South Carolina plays on Thursday night at #9 LSU at 8:00 ET.
